Burlington Telecom’s 100% fiber-optic Internet and phone services will soon be available to residents and businesses in the Malletts Bay area! We are currently working on expanding our network so you’ll see our crew and vehicles out and about. Our local team has been providing state-of-the-art Internet and phone services and connecting communities in Vermont for 20+ years, this of our services as a super highway for data. We are excited to bring these services to Malletts Bay as part of our growing communities which include Burlington, South Burlington, Winooski, Essex Junction, Colchester, and Shelburne. The Construction Process

Building a fiber-optic network is a highly technical and coordinated process that involves several steps over a multi-month schedule. This process includes engineering design, working with local authorities to secure permits, coordinating with private homeowner associations for access, complying with federal and state requirements to mark out underground infrastructure via the Dig Safe program, materials procurement, and construction. Burlington Telecom is fully committed to working as efficiently as possible while ensuring the work is done safely and accurately. Our goal is to keep you informed as we move through the process and get your home connected as soon as possible.

Progress Milestones

Start

Drilling

Drilling is the installation of conduit/fiber underground with minimal surface disturbance. This allows for BT to bring fiber into your neighborhood with minimal disruption to the soil in the public right-of-way. On rare occasions because of underground conflicts, trenching may be required. With any method the ground surface will be restored and seeded to reclaim the grass.

Middle

Communication Vaults

BT will use in-ground/flush mount communication vaults, typically within the public right-of-way. They make it easy to maintain vegetation/grass, blend into the landscape, and less visually intrusive to pedestal style boxes.

Completion

Distribution Boxes

BT will professionally install a small box on the side of your building, typically in the area of existing power and telecommunication equipment, to provide services. A cable will then be installed within the building to a central location for your devices to access the Internet and phone services.

Construction FAQ:

To place our fiber-optic cables underground, Federal and State requirements mandate that Dig Safe regulations must be followed. We start the process by notifying Dig Safe and then within 72 hours, any company that has underground infrastructure in the area must, or could face penalties, mark out where their assets lie. Our goal is to be efficient and to leave the area as we found it by filling holes and planting grass seed to restore the ground to its original state when necessary.

For our fiber network to have a dedicated connection to homes, we will place our vaults typically within the public right-of-way and try to place them in strategic locations. Our goal is to blend these into the landscape and not take away from curb appeal.

After the fiber is placed, our engineer test the network to ensure it is performing to our high standards.
