When finished, the City of Burlington will have a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure for generations to come. With your support this will be a tremendous and critical asset for all residents and businesses.

Our Progress, Our Plans   Updated September 1, 2007
We have divided the City into "customer service areas" (CSA) of approx. 2500 - 3500 premises. In each CSA the fibers from each home lead back to a single "Fiber Aggregation Point" (FAP), which is normally an unmanned building constructed for that purpose. From each FAP, a main trunk cable goes to BT’s main hub at 200 Church Street.

BT chose its first CSA (South End) because: the FAP for that area is in the Hub building itself -- so we did not have to build a new building for that purpose. We have chosen our second area (the New North End) because this neighborhood has the least and poorest telecommunications service from the existing carriers. Unlike the rest of the City, DSL is unavailble in most of the NNE and cell phone coverage is also poor and spotty. The majority of the NNE will be completed by the end of Spring 2007.

However, it is important to remember that BT will complete ALL aerial wiring of the City by the end of 2007 with much of the buried wiring to be finished in 2008.

To put it in perspective, on March 17, 2005, Burlington Telecom purchased the building to house our Central Office at 200 Church Street. In less than one year’s time, we delivered a triple-play of services to South End residents in Burlington.

Here are our current estimates for service:

South End  [Can we serve you?]
Most addresses south of Main Street are now servicable (with some notable exceptions where entire neighborhoods or developments are served via buried utilities). Use our address checker to determine availability or call 540-0007

New North End  [Can we serve you?]
As of today we are able to serve over 2000 homes in the NNE with over 1000 more still to come this summer. If you drive about the NNE during the week you will see crews hard at work constructing the network to reach many new neighborhoods. A lot of this work entails pulling cables underground. To those who have pre-ordered and are still waiting, we promise to call you as soon as your address is ready. Also:

First, thank you for your patience, no one expected the construction to take this long.

Second, the good news is that the significant initial delays due to underground cabling issues are the only delays so far and we are now making progress headlong towards completing the remaining sections of our NNE construction.

Through mid-August and September we will be releasing addresses for service and calling folks who ordered for installation.

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to pre-order online

Old North End Update  [Can we serve you?]
TV, broadband, and telephone services in much of the Old North End and neighborhoods bordered by N & S Winooski Ave on the west, Main Street on the south and N. Willard on the east, will be available before the end of the year. The areas east of North Willard and up along Colchester Avenue and the Hospital are also planned for completion before the end of the year. We will have more accurate dates for service to all these areas in September and October.

We are now encouraging folks in the Old North End and Hill section to pre-order online

The most important question is: "How will you know when your address be ready to install services?"

The answer is: If you pre-order with us we will contact you as soon as your address is confirmed by our engineers as ready to go. Your pre-sale order will be confirmed within 3-days. We may ask you for some additional paperwork, and then we all wait for the Construction Manager to give us the green light to call you.

Please submit any questions through our Contact Us form. We greatly appreciate the support the residents of Burlington has shown BT!
